Shower replacement and installation
There’s no denying that having a good shower is a game changer – possibly even a life changer! Okay sure, that might sound a bit dramatic, but we all know the difference a shower replacement can make.
Having a good shower to start your day sets you up in the best way possible (that and a good coffee). Similarly, ending a busy day with a relaxing shower can make all the difference in the world. It’s no surprise that when we travel, we almost always comment on the quality of the hotel room shower.
There’s no need to tolerate a household shower that you don’t love. And there’s absolutely no reason to make do with a shower that was there when you moved in if it’s not making you feel amazing every time. Replacing a shower isn’t as complicated as most people think – and our plumbers in Auckland can help with shower replacement and installation.
So how often should you replace your shower?
As you can tell by our comments above, we think you should replace your shower if it’s not giving you that refreshing or relaxing feeling you need at the start or end of your day. Seriously, life’s too short to tolerate a bad shower. (Can you tell we feel very strongly about the importance of a superb shower?!)
Shower replacement if you don’t love your shower experience
If you’re putting up with a bad shower, it’s time you look into shower replacement. It may not be as complex as you think. Our plumbers at Sumich can assess your bathroom plumbing and let you know how easy shower replacement is.
It always surprises us how many people move into a new home and just put up with a shower that’s been there for years, if not decades. You don’t need to wait until the time is right for a full bathroom renovation. We can replace just the shower if that’s all you can afford right now. It’s more important to us that you love your shower experience.
How to fix a leaking shower?
If you hear that annoying drip, drip, drip when your shower is turned off, give us a call to investigate it. It may just mean that there is a fault with the shower head or the tapware – something relatively simple to repair or replace.
But it’s always important to make sure that there isn’t more serious water damage behind the wall of the shower. If your shower has been leaking or dripping for some time, there may be structural damage that you can’t see.
If you leave it too long, the repair work may become more serious and more expensive than if you’d acted early on when you first noticed the dripping or leaking.
A leaky shower doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s time to replace your shower. But if there are several parts that need replacing, we can give you an estimate for a full shower replacement as well.
If you have trouble controlling the water temperature
If you’re constantly adjusting the water temperature in your shower, even when no other taps or appliances are running, it may be time to upgrade your shower. We’ll also check your hot water cylinder or hot water heating system, but it may just be that your shower components are old and need replacing.
If you have trouble controlling the water pressure
If the water pressure in your shower isn’t as strong as you’d like it to be, even when no other taps or appliances are running, it may be time to upgrade your shower. We’ll check to see if you have a low pressure hot water cylinder that needs upgrading, but again, it may be that your shower components are old and need replacing.
If there is excessive mould or mildew
The appearance of black or green spots, mould and mildew in your shower is inevitable. It’s important to stay on top of cleaning your shower properly to keep mould under control.
No one wants to have to look at mould and mildew when you’re showering and trying to get clean. There are a number of safe products you can use to keep mould under control.
It’s also unhealthy to have excessive mould and mildew in your shower – or anywhere in your home. It can lead to increased asthma, allergies other respiratory illnesses.
If you’ve done everything you can to create a dry environment and to improve the air flow/extraction from your bathroom, it may be time to replace the shower. Excessive mould may be the result of having an old shower that needs to be replaced.
If there are damaged faucets, tapware, shower door, or showerhead
If you have one or two old and broken parts, get in touch with us and we can give you some good advice on whether it’s worth repairing or replacing these parts.
If you have several broken, worn or damaged parts, it may be more economical to upgrade the whole shower system.
At Sumich Plumbing & Drainage, we have done numerous Auckland bathroom renovations and we can provide you with knowledge and honest guidance around how long to expect your shower to last and whether it’s time to replace your shower.
There are a few factors that will help determine whether it’s time to replace your shower
- How often you use it – is it your main shower or is it in the spare bathroom that only gets used by guests?
- Whether there is water damage – is there water damage caused by a part that isn’t working properly?
- How many parts need replacing = are there several parts that need to be upgraded, and therefore, it may be more economical to replace the entire shower system?
- The age of the shower – is your shower quite old (more than a decade) and in need of more modern components?
- The condition of the shower – have you looked after the shower properly or neglected it?
- Your living situation – do you plan on staying in the home for a few more years or is your family situation/number of household members likely to change soon?
If you’re considering a bathroom renovation or you’re simply just curious about whether it’s time to replace your shower, please get in touch with us. We won’t try to sell you something you don’t need. We want you to love your shower experience!
